Shockingly, it’s been four years since the last instalment in my Beatmasters mix series, so a new volume has been long overdue. And this is one I’ve wanted to do all along – 80 minutes chronicling the sounds of one of the greatest living musical geniuses, Prince Rogers Nelson. (Actually quite rare to find a true black music legend that’s still alive, I’m sure you’d agree!)
This selection combines a multitude of Prince’s own tunes with those he’s either written, arranged or produced for other artists, giving a full overview of his quirky creativity over the past 35 years. It doesn’t claim to be a comprehensive discography – that would go on for hours, (and nobody REALLY needs to hear ‘Under The Cherry Moon’ or ‘Anotherloverholeinyohead’ again in their life, right?) – but this certainly brings together his very best stuff.
